Luchtfoto Zandmotor
Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Gemeente Westland, 14-09-2019; Delflandse Kust ter hoogte van Ter Heijde en Monster, Den Haag aan de horizon. De Zandmotor is een kunstmatig schiereiland (landtong), ontstaan door het opspuiten van zand voor de kust. Wind, golven en stroming zullen het zand langs de kust in noordelijke richting verspreiden waardoor verderop langs de kust bredere stranden en duinen ontstaan. De zandmotor is een experiment in het kader van kustonderhoud en kustverdediging.
Sand Engine, artificial peninsula build by the raising of sand for the coast (near the Hague at the horizon). Wind, waves and currents will distribute the sand along the coast yielding wider beaches and dunes along the coastline. The Sand Engine is a experiment for coastal maintenance of coastal defense.
