Nederland, Noord-Brabant, Werkendam, 07-02-2018; Brabantse Biesbosch, Ruimte voor de Rivier project Ontpoldering Noordwaard. De ontpolderde Polder Noordwaard met afgestorven bomen en nieuwe kreken. De dijken aan de rivier de Nieuwe Merwede zijn gedeeltelijk afgegraven waardoor rivier bij hoogwater via de Noordwaard en de Biesbosch sneller naar zee stromen. Gevolg van de ingrepen is dat de waterstand verder stroomopwaarts zal dalen. Ook de getijden keren terug in het gebied.
National Project Ruimte voor de Rivier (Room for the River). By lowering and moving the dike of the Noordwaard polder the area will become subject to controlled inundation and function as a dedicated water detention district. Houses and farmhouses have been demolished and rebuild on new dwelling mounds.
