Doel van het project van Natuurmonumenten en Rijkswaterstaat is natuurherstel, met name verbetering van de ecologie in het gebied, in het bijzonder de kwaliteit van bodem en water
Naast het hoofdeiland is er inmiddels een tweede eiland in wording, de uiteindelijk Marker Wadden archipel zal uit vijf eilanden bestaan.
Marker Wadden, artifial islands. The aim of the project is to restore the ecology in the area, in particular the quality of soil and water.
The first phase of the construction, the main island, is finished.
